The Sound Architect had the honour and privilege of meeting HRH, Duke of Cambridge, Prince William, due to the fact that Sam Hughes is one of the three who are the first to ever receive the Prince William Scholarship via BAFTA and Warner Brothers.

Today was the Give Back to BAFTA event at 195 Picadilly, and it was an extremely exciting experience, especially as the Duke himself was there!

I, Sam Hughes, was introduced to the Duke alongside two fellow Prince William Scholars, Sam Coleman and Rienkje Attoh.

The Duke exchanged a few words with us asking about our courses and where we wanted to head with our careers in the future. He seemed genuinely interested in what we had to say and also used the word “awesome” when referring to the games industry!

We were then taken into the theatre to listen speeches by the Chairman of BAFTA, before hearing from the President of BAFTA, Prince William himself. Prince William gave a brilliant speech on the importance of the creative fields, especially videogames.

After this the Duke left the building and we were able to mingle with the other scholars and prestigious members and staff of BAFTA.

Sam Coleman, fantastic games designer, and I also attend the Young Games Designer event after this to speak with brilliant professionals in the gaming world and also the amazing creative minds of the young generation entering the industry. Some fantastic game ideas there and looking forward to what these amazing minds dream up!

Overall a fantastic day and was absolutely a phenomenal experience.
